The department investigated two overhead electric travelling cranes operating in tandem lifting over 60 tonnes. The cranes were lifting a cylindrical steel fabrication 5 metres in length and 6.5 metres in diameter. One crane had a safe working load of 30 tonne, main hook marked 25 tonne with no safe catch fitted. The other crane had a safe working load of 30 tonne, main hook marked 30 tonne also with no safety catch on the hook. The investigation confirmed that the cranes were lifting over 60 tonnes and therefore prosecution action taken out. |
