|Description of Breach(es)||
Being the main contractor failed to ensure that class 2 demolition work to be done at the workplace was done by a person who has been issued with a licence to do class 1 or class 2 demolition work.
The defendant engaged another person to demolish a factory and office at its premises in O'Connor. The building was approximately 80 metres by 20 metres and was 6 metres high.
WorkSafe Inspectors found broken asbestos cement building materials, stacks of roof timber, broken concrete and roof steel scattered about the site. It was found that the engaged contractor did not hold the necessary demolition licence to carry out this type of work. When questioned the defendant's Director stated that he was not aware of the requirement to engage a licensed person to do this work.
The defendant pleaded guilty.
