Being the main contractor at a workplace, failed to ensure that edge protection that complies with regulation 3.55(5) of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 was provided and kept in place or a fall injury prevention system was provided when there was a risk that a person could fall 3 metres or more from an edge at the workplace.
The defendant company was a demolition contractor who was engaged to do demolition work at a residential house in Marmion.
A WorkSafe Inspector inspected the site and found that employees of the defendant were working adjacent to an open edge of the roof and were at risk of falling from the edge. There was no edge protection or fall injury prevention system in place. The height of the roof varied between 2.8m at its lowest point and 5.4m at its highest point.
The defendant pleaded guilty.
